Roots and Branches
At the intersection of jazz, collective improvisation, and folk singer-songwriters, Roots and Branches takes a 10-piece chamber ensemble through a collection of musical stories. Free improvisations meet with vocal melodies, intricate compositions, and extended solos.
This music was written during a deeply personal process of building connections with my communities and environments. It was born at a residency in the mountains of Banff, nurtured and composed in Montréal, and finally recorded with an incredible group of friends and collaborators in Amsterdam.
At the heart of this process was finding and building spaces that sustained me, and inspired me to grow and learn.
Certain pieces are ‘Roots’: grounded, introspective, heart music that brings together and strengthens connections.
Other pieces are ‘Branches’: inventive, extroverted, explosive music, looking for new connections and understandings.
I can't thank enough the lovely group of people, both in Montréal and Amsterdam, that made this whole project possible, from start to finish. This music grew and evolved with each and every person who sightread / performed / critiqued / edited it and invested themselves in it.
These tracks are a sneak peak at some upcoming projects, with my new European small ensemble and my chamber ensemble project that had a proof on concept show at Montréal’s Sala Rossa
WIP stuff all around that I’m looking forwards to sharing more of in the near future.

Vertigo (greetings from the third)
Recorded on a zoom in our living room, this EP is a reflection on the various stages of the pandemic and our own experiences within the first year of COVID .
It is also a celebration of the time that the two of us were able to spend living and playing together, about the forming of close bonds through an otherwise isolating time.
This fun Covid studio session as a chord-less quartet features some compositions by the band members as well as two of our favourite standards!
